Mr. G's students were given a composite figure which was Christmas wrapping paper. The wrapping paper has squares on the back of it which we use as unit squares. The students had to trace their composite figure onto the giant sticky note. Then they had to decide where to cut their composite figure so that they could find the area of each individual figure. Once they labeled the figure, they used the formula
A = L x W (Area = Length x Width) to find the area of each figure. Once they did that they were able to find the total area of the composite figure by adding all the areas together.
